Ok.  Hands up if you find yourself putting off starting something until tomorrow or Monday or until the kids go back to school?

The diet can start on Monday.  Or after the holidays.  Or once all the rubbish has been consumed in the house.  Or until you have had chance to go shopping for some healthy alternatives?

You want to start Couch to 5K but it was raining today, and you know you won’t have time tomorrow so you may as well start it next week.  It’s always better to start things on a Monday isn’t it?

Procrastination - stop procrastinatingOr how about you keep meaning to write that book or develop your family tree but you know you will need a few hours to get started so it will have to wait.

We’re all guilty of this at one time or another.  It may be the diet, it may be going to the gym, writing our book, filling out a form, making a phone call.  The list is endless.

You’ve probably read 1001 articles about procrastination and how to avoid it.

However, what about when your excuse is your age?  Do you ever think – “oh do you know what?  I’m the wrong side of 40 now so who cares if I have a muffin top?” or “I am never going to be the next J K Rowling, I’m far too old to start now”

We all have dreams – those things we are always meaning to do but the items on our must do list gets in the way.   Before we know it, these dreams remain just dreams because we think we are too old to start now.

However, age is not an excuse.  Some fabulous people did fabulous things when they were older.

Did you know that Stan Lee created “The Fantastic Four” (his first comic title) at 39?

Vera Wang started in the fashion industry at 40?

Charles Darwin was 50 when his “On the Origin of Species” changed the views of the science community?

Laura Ingalls Wilder was 65 when she published the first “Little House” book which went on to become Little House on the Prairie?

I read recently about a 68 year old lady who had always wanted to run a marathon so started walking and then gradually running at the age of 64 and has now run something like 10 marathons!  She had never ran at all until she was over 60 and she could have, so easily, decided it was never to be but instead she got up and started walking.

So today, think about that one dream – the book, the marathon, the dress size down and do one thing about it.  Don’t get to an age where it becomes a real challenge, make it easier on yoursef and do something about it today.
