Practising What I Preach (aka time to get my sh*t together)

Motivational quotes, such as “she knew she could so she did” are all very lovely but how many of us actually read that and get motivated.

How many of us see that and think “oh how motivational, I must share that on Instagram”

Northerner down south
Being me

Being a Northerner Down South

Now, although my accent has changed, I am no longer regarded as having a Northern accent when I am up North but I am also not regarded as having a Southern accent when I am down south.  The Northerners think I speak like a Southerner and the Southerners think I speak like a Northerner.

Hello!

I'm Debs, and you've found
my little corner of the internet

I am a happily married mum of three. Our house is home to myself, my husband, three children and a huge variety of special educational needs and disabilities (ranging from severe visual impairment to autism, from speech and communication issues to dyspraxia and from osteoarthritis to vertigo) and it's also home to one very very nutty dog.

Life is never ever dull!

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, please
feel free to leave your comments and thoughts.

Your challenge today is your inbox!
Now stop swearing, I don’t mean the whole thing, let’s just start slowly.
Create a rule or filter (depending which email system you use), and have everything you subscribe to for updates or newsletters go to one folder rather than your inbox.
Have a look through and copy the email address of the subscription into a rule or filter, saying all emails from this address go to this folder.
You can still read them - just go to the folder.
Or if this worries you, have a look and see if you can add a colour tag to those addresses so when you look at your inbox you know they are just updates and don’t require action.
It really does help when you are looking at your inbox and thinking “oh shit, so many emails, where do I start?”
Let me know how you get on or if you need some help finding out how to do it. (Google is also your friend) xx

Your challenge today is tins and jars. Have a look at dates - did you buy coconut milk but then never got round to using it? Do you have a tin that has been through a few house moves with you? Do you have a jar of jam you bought at a local fete but never opened?
Today’s the day to create some space.

Today’s challenge is your underwear drawer!
Let’s be honest how many of you have knickers in there older than your kids? Knickers with holes? Bras with hooks missing? Knickers you are never ever going to fit into again?
Have a blitz! Remember you’re worth it! You’re worth more than a pair of knickers you would hate to be wearing if people could see through your clothes!

Today’s challenge is socks! How many of you have odd socks that you haven’t matched for months but you insist on keeping them in case the other one shows up?
Now if you wear odd socks (and let’s be honest here, life’s too short not to), then just get them all put away. But if you insist on matching socks, spend today sorting the socks out - and throw away those socks you haven’t matched for months.
This is such a simple job (boring but easy), anyone in the household could do it. It isn’t strenuous, won’t feel like a work out, you can sit on the sofa and watch TV as you do it.
Grab a brew and go for it

Today’s challenge is your bathroom cabinet.
Is everything in there used?
Is everything in there in date?
Is any of it empty?
Group items together - eg cleanser, toner & moisturiser, toothbrush, paste, floss and mouthwash. Make your mornings simple.

Your challenge today on #internationalwomensday2020 is to address and get rid of the negative stories you tell yourself. The ones that limit you (I’m too old, too fat, not good enough) or the ones that cause stress as you desperately try to be something you’re not.
If you want to inspire others, go for it. But if inspiring others feels like another burden, then give yourself a break.
Ask yourself today, what am I doing because I’ve been told I should (by friends or social media) and what do I want to do but keep putting off because I think I’m not good enough, slim enough, too old, or too old.
Today is about being, or becoming, who you want to be, not worrying about what others think.
What stories do you tell yourself?
